Studio of Music,

Cincinnati Ohio

instruction in piano playing and keyboard musicianship

A program of Elementary Piano Studies is offered for beginners and pianists with some experience of all ages. Students are matched together for Partner Lessons wherever compatible groupings are possible. Other students receive Individual Lessons, one-to-one with the teacher. The approach incorporates popular music, classical music, and music from cultures throughout the world. Lessons take place in a setting that has acoustic and digital pianos as well as other modern classroom resources.

Weekly lessons in conjunction with a regular home practice schedule ensure each student’s progress in reading music at the keyboard, rhythm and aural skills, piano technique, composition or improvisational abilities, and ensemble playing skills. The course of study gradually leads to a mastery of the practical and theoretical foundations of music. Special insights offer a foretaste of advanced musical studies in harmony, analysis, composition, the history and aesthetics of music.

Intermediate and Advanced Level Studies programs prepare young students for continuing studies at the collegiate level or for a lifelong participation in music at a high level. Adult students perform in musical gatherings and enjoy playing chamber music within a framework of expectations relevant to their lifestyle. The approach embraces a complete technique of piano playing through classical and contemporary musical repertoire. The course of study includes sight-reading and rapid music learning techniques, and opportunities to participate in recitals, auditions, competitions, and other special events.

Dr. Millar strongly endorses the goals and objectives of The Carnegie Hall Royal Conservatory Achievement Program
